Oxygen absorber help/advice..
I popped my food preservation cherry, but fear I may have screwed up! :banghead:
I sealed 10 bags in mylar with oxygen absorbers. Two of the 10 have no air in the bags (you can see the texture on the bag as it is vacuum tight). One bag has a hole at the top (bad seal). The ones I'm concerned about, have a slight vacuum, I pull the corners up and the bag is concave. But if I push it in, if forms a bubble from the air trapped inside. Should I reseal with new absorbers? Or is all the oxygen gone, and have nothing to worry about? Thanks :ok: :coolbeer: |
Re: Oxygen absorber help/advice..
Oxy absorbers will NOT pull all the air out.
Remember, nitrogen is something like 78% of the gas in air. So if your oxygen absorber is 100% efficient, it will still only take out 22% of the air in your container. If the oxy absorbers were fresh, and you feel you have a good seal, you are probably ok. Remember, it depending on your oxy absorber, it can take up to 24 hours for the oxy absorber to do its thing fully. That said, those bags should tighten up quite a bit if you did it right. |

PS> If in doubt, do it again. You will always question those seals if you don't.

Re: Oxygen absorber help/advice..
I hate storing extra oxy absorbers.
So I divide how many I have by how many jars and double/triple up until I run out. Overkill......it's my style. |
Re: Oxygen absorber help/advice..
I put all my unused absorbers in a mason jar. Just screw the lid on and in 20 minutes its got a nice tight seal. Not even really that much of a hassle!

Re: Oxygen absorber help/advice..
cool thanks for the replies.
They are sorbant systems absorbers, 2000cc for a 5/6 gal. bucket mylar bag. The seal is good, I just didn't get all the air out before dropping and sealing.. |
